Switzerland Real Estate, there is no better time than now!

Since 1997, we’ve opened up our restrictions and allowed foreigners to buy Switzerland Real Estate with certain caveats in place.
If you visit Switzerland often and have considered buying a house for yourself, there is no better time than now.
Before 1997, foreigners weren’t really allowed to buy real estate as a rule.
Requirements for foreigners to own a house in Switzerland
In order to buy in Switzerland a property for personal use, you must be a Swiss resident, if you are a foreigner.
To qualify for a Swiss residence permit is not as hard as you might think. This is especially true if you are currently a member of a country that is part of the EU or the EFTA. There is usually a requirement that you live in Switzerland for 180 days out of a year.
As a foreigner, you will be limited to one piece of real estate per person. If you are so inclined, you can buy additional properties by putting them in your family members’ names.
Don’t count on buying any huge properties of Switzerland real estate with your Swiss residency permit; castles are off limits. There are size limitations on how big a house and how big the property that the house is on can be. The maximum size of the land is 3,000 squared meters. That translates to just over 9,842 squared feet of property which is less than ¼ acre.
When you’re not in your new home, you can rent your Switzerland real estate property out a maximum of 9 months out of a year. This sounds like a great way to buy a vacation chalet.
We don’t have as many restrictions in place if you want to buy Switzerland real estate for commercial use. So you can buy Switzerland real estate for commercial use with much less restrictions.
Relocating to Switzerland Tips
You can bring your cats and dogs without a permit and without them being quarantined. (Depends on the country you’r arriving.) This is very different than pet importing laws of other countries in Europe, some of which require extensive quarantine periods.
For the most part, your foreign driver’s license will do. If you have a license from some countries, Switzerland may require you to take our driving exam. Be careful, you can only take our practical test three times. After that you have to see a psychologist who will decide whether or not you are fit to drive! I’m not kidding so don’t joke around when you are taking your test.
