Switzerland Lodging, so many choices, sleep on straw, or stay in a palace, tips

When visiting Switzerland, you’ll find a number of Switzerland lodging choices. You can stay in a traditional hotel where you will get first class treatment. You could have a distinctly European experience and stay in a youth hostel. If you want more privacy, consider renting a chalet or house for your family. The choice is yours. Here is my list that you might want to consider:

Hostel. This type of lodging is not just for students although the majority of travelers will be under 30. You’ll find both seniors and families. They’ll often set aside rooms for family travelers. You can find lodging at a hostel for anywhere from $20 to $40 a night including breakfast.

Hotel. Range anywhere from the budget minded to those seeking a luxurious trip. If money is no concern, this is where you’ll want to stay at a spa where you can sit in hot thermal baths or receive a massage as part of your package. You’ll have many choices for luxury Switzerland lodging if you look into hotels.

Bed and Breakfast. This is called a "Zimmer" in Switzerland unless you’re in a French speaking part of it, where you’ll want to refer to it as "chambre d’hôte". This will cost you $25-50 a bed a day. This is more prevalent in Europe than it is in on others continents and has much more of a homey cottage feel. You’re not staying in a hotel that has been decorated to look like a bed and breakfast. Here, your Switzerland lodging will make you feel more like you’re a houseguest.

Best accommodation in Switzerland!

Chalet Rentals. This is a very popular form of Switzerland lodging.

House Rentals. This is also a very popular form of Switzerland lodging.

Apartment Rentals. If you plan to be in Switzerland for more than a month, considering getting a short term lease on an apartment while here.

House Exchanges. This is a fun way to get free Switzerland lodging. Many of these networks have been going on for 50 years! You might need to pay a fee to join a network but other than that, there won’t be much more costs. If you’re open to the idea of sharing your house with a family of strangers in exchange for some free lodging, this is the way to go.

Camping. This can be a very affordable form of Switzerland lodging for the adventurous who don’t need a hairdryer in the morning. Camping doesn’t just mean a tent, either. We have caravans, pitches, bungalows, and mobile homes that you can rent. We do not allow camping outside of official camp zones. There are official camp directories that you can find on the Internet for more information. Check to make sure your camp site is open in the winter in case you come to Switzerland when the hiking season is gone.
