Interested in Buying a Watch of Switzerland?

Would you like to have a good watch of Switzerland, and wear it on you’r hiking tours? Have you been looking for a new watch? Do you keep getting advice to buy a watch in Switzerland? What watch you ask? You might be familiar with the Swiss Army Watches, but don’t stop there.

There are so many that it might be hard for you to choose just one watch. If you intend to buy a watch while you’r in Switzerland, sometimes it’s better to choose a timepiece in a small shop out of the touristic tracks.

Swiss Army Watch from Victorinox. Karl Elsener founded his company in 1884 but didn’t give it its name that we know if by until his mother, Victoria, passed away in 1909. This is also when you start to see the trademarked red cross for his products. He delivered his first set of soldier’s knives to the Swiss Army in 1891. Well known not just for their watches but for their knives. This watch of Switzerland has had international success since 1945.

Wenger Wenger also makes watches for the Swiss Military. Wenger Watches was established in 1893 in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland. Wenger and Victorinox have been competitors in the same niche for over a hundred years now!

Rolex Watches were founded in 1905 in Switzerland by a parent company based in England. In 1926, they manufactured the Rolex Oyster, the first waterproof wrist watch ever. In 1931, they release their Perpetual Rotor, the basis for all self-winding watches. In 1967, they produced a timepiece that could go 1,220 meters under the sea!

Tag Heuer Watches was founded by Edouard Heuer in 1860. His work is known as the "Swiss Avant-Garde since 1860." Tag Heuer fit a luxury niche for a watch of Switzerland and focuses on many partnerships in the sporting world.

Breitling Watches was also founded in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland in 1884. In 1923, they produce the first personal stopwatch (also known as a chronograph pushpiece). They are the official suppliers to Switzerland’s Air Force.

Omega Watches was founded by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. The Omega brand watch was flight-qualified by NASA in 1965. It continued to play a part on later NASA missions. Buzz Aldrin wore one on the outside of his space suit when he walked on the moon in 1969. So you can say that the Omega Watch is not just a watch of Switzerland but of the moon as well.

Watch of Switzerland

Just like with Swiss Chocolates, the competition and collaboration between Swiss watch-makers has paved the way for innovations in the watch industry the likes of which we haven’t see anywhere.
